Asymptotic freedom: history and interpretation
نویسنده
چکیده
In this lecture, the early history of asymptotic freedom is discussed. The first completely correct derivation of β0 in non-abelian gauge theory (Khriplovich, 1969) was done in the Coulomb gauge; this derivation is reproduced (in modernized terms) in Sect. 2. A qualitative physical explanation of asymptotic freedom via chromomagnetic properties of vacuum (Nielsen, 1981) is discussed in Sect. 3.

Asymptotic Freedom 1. Understanding Asymptotic Freedom in Qcd
I discuss how the basic phenomenon of asymptotic freedom in QCD can be understood in elementary physical terms. Similarly, I discuss how the long-predicted phenomenon of “gluonization of the proton” – recently spectacularly confirmed at HERA – is a rather direct manifestation of the physics of asymptotic freedom. I review the broader significance of asymptotic freedom in QCD in fundamental phys...
متن کاملRereading the Interpretation of "There is no compulsion in religion"in the Light of the Theory of Coherence and Continuity of the Qur'an and Its Relation to Freedom of Religion and Belief
The Quranic sentence "There is no compulsion in religion" has been interpreted differently by commentators in different periods. Some has taken it as the permission for freedom of belief from the verse and some has considered it in conflict with the verses of fighting and apostasy. The distinction and diversity of the commentators' understanding of the verses of the Qur'an is related to the men...
متن کاملDavid J. Gross - Nobel Lecture
The progress of science is much more muddled than is depicted in most history books. This is especially true of theoretical physics, partly because history is written by the victorious. Consequently, historians of science often ignore the many alternate paths that people wandered down, the many false clues they followed, the many misconceptions they had. These alternate points of view are less ...
متن کاملA Hegelian Reading of the Philosophy of Iranian Mythological History in Firdowsi\'s Shahnameh, Focusing on the concepts of "Gods and Servants"
Firdowsi's Shahnameh, the poetic mythological epic of Iran, is created on the base of opposite forces of the world, namely Iran and Aniran and the battles of their people, because the design of the mythological history of Iran is also basically created on the intercourse of opposites .One of the most comprehensive philosophical views on history is Friedrich Hegel's attitude. In this view, the ...

On the occasion of the 25 anniversary of Asymptotic Freedom, celebrated at the QCD Euorconference 98 on Quantum Chrodynamics, Montpellier, July 1998, I described the discovery of Asymptotic Freedom and the emergence of QCD.
